For CBSE board exams they are the best

If you have gone through the old CBSE question papers it is obvious that most of the questions are from NCERT books. For the last couple of years CBSE Maths exam which was considered to be the toughest, did contain equations from NCERT exemplar solutions. Most of the times the questions are twisted and asked in CBSE papers. Then students would mug up the NCERT books and go on to claim that it is out of syllabus. Before studying NCERT books you need to understand the concepts better so that you can score well. It is important that you read and study the books properly because nothing beyond these books are asked in the exams.

A number of practice problems are offered

However hard you practice a topic you will not be able to score big till you solve enough practice papers. In NCERT books you are likely to find the questions at the end of the book. It can be in the form of match the following, short or long term questions or fill in the blank questions. Hence to score optimum marks in the board exams it is necessary for the students to practice a variety of question papers. Apart from that there is a need to practice exemplary question papers. This is going to  provide you with an easy hand on answering twisted questions as well.

No harm exists when you use reference books or additional books for help. But most of the time it is seen that reference books are full of concise notes, where there is a lack of definite knowledge that makes the student deviate from the topic and leaves them confused.
