Sony A7IV – Rumors

Read Time:4 Minute, 6 Second

Rumor No 1

I finally got Sony A7IV specs from a solid source. I think there is a 95% chance those are right:

  • launch in October (if chip supply permits this)
  • Newly developed 33MP sensor
  • 5.5 stops of IBIS (+ AS)

I have been told Sony’s goal with the A7IV is to really fight back with Canon. Expect it to be more than an “updated” Sony A7III. I also got some rumors from another new source but I don’t know how good that info is. I will eventually post this “non solid rumor” part on Monday.

Rumor No 2

The same source that first told me about the ZV-E10 camera launch delay now told me that Sony moved the A7IV launch date from mid September to at least October. He also told me that supplies will be limited during the first months :/

This was to be expected. The chip shortage is a big issue for 2021. Many news outlets reported that situation should normalize in 2022 only.

Every day that an A7iv is not on the market is another day that Sony loses out on the limited competition for high margin CFExpress card sales.

IMO, Sony has some pretty serious issues in their lineup that need to be resolved:

– Two different body types, driving complexity of SKUs for both cameras and accessories

– Significantly cheaper cameras having better AF features than their core sales camera

– Realistically no good answer to the R5 for stills (A7R3 sensor needs a new home)

– A lot of overlapping segments that makes choosing a camera very difficult

– Lossless compressed RAW needs to make its way through the lineups

I have spent a lot of time thinking about how to fix their lineup, and I think that this is the answer:

– a7Siii – Leave alone, don’t update the line again

– a7cii – really shouldn’t be upgraded, but could go to CFExpress to increase memory sales

– a7iv – take the role of both the A9 and a7 lines, new stacked 30mp sensor @ 20fps

– (this will be the place to make stacked sensors become the new normal)

– a7Rv – new 42-45mp camera designed to take on the R5 and Z7

– a8 – the new A7Riv. Same sensor but new body for faster storage and better processing

– a1 – leave alone for now

Like this there are many sonyalpharumos which are revolving in the internet, To get updated about all the rumors related to Sony Alpha visit SRDTF News

WILD RUMOR: New Sigma 70-200mm FE coming (and it weights 1050g)

Back in February Sigma CEO hinted that a 70-200mm f/2.8 FE lens would come. But we haven’t heard anything about this until now. One source now appears to have gotten some info about the lens. All he sent me was the weight info:

The new sigma S 70-200 weights only 1050g!!

No idea when this will be announced….but I guess that if his info is correct the lens should be announced within the end of the year.
