History of USB-C in a nutshell

USB-C is a new universal connector for all devices. But it has been a long journey for the USB-C to become a standard. The idea was born with the Nokia N9 and Apple iPhone 5, but the USB-IF decided to focus on the USB 3.0 and the new reversible USB-A connector. Now, the USB-IF has brought the USB-C to the market, and it is being adopted by almost all the companies, including Apple and Microsoft. The USB-C connector is the latest version of the Universal Serial Bus (USB) connector standard. The USB-C connector is being offered on new devices in a variety of connector orientations and intended applications. The USB-C connector was designed to be the future-proof connector for the USB standards. The USB-C connector is smaller than the USB Standard-A connector and the USB Standard-B Micro connector. It is also reversible, like the Micro-B connector, so there is no “right” way to plug it in. The USB-C connector is a reversible-plug connector for USB devices. How is USB-C different from USB-A and other connectors?

The USB-C multiport charger and cable have several key features that make them different from the connectors and cables used for earlier USB standards. The connector is reversible—it doesn’t matter which way you plug it in, the cable will fit and work. The USB-C cable includes a wire that is able to transfer both data and power, so a single cable can charge a USB-C device and transfer data to and from it. As a standard, USB-C is still new. It’s only been around since 2014 when it was introduced on the MacBook, and it’s not yet ubiquitous.
