PCB markings

Printed circuit boards have become a revolution in the world of electronics. That is the popularity of electronic circuits that have become an integral part of all types of devices worldwide. PCBs are proportional in size, convenient, lightweight, and have good rigidity compared to other circuit boards. What are the different types of PCB markings?

The different types of PCB markings are given by,

Mark Point:

The PCB’s Mark Point is also called a reference point. It is the main point of placement using SMT machines. We all know that PCB products are a common measurement point in mass production assembly. This means that every PCB mark allows the programmer to set up the machine automatically. This is because the marked point is the focal area of the entire circuit. This point is one of the distinctive features of the board.

Mark point design specifications:

When we take a closer look at each PCB board, we find at least one pair of marks on every board. These points are essential, and at least every PCB board must have one pair. This is because the markers or combinations of markers act as auxiliary and vital positions for each panel.

Shape and design specifications of The Mark Point:

Mark Points are used as the location of the machine or as part of the machine identification. It can usually be seen that the mark point can be drawn in various shapes such as round, square, triangle, and diamond. Apart from this, there are also other requirements on the PCB board, which are the basis of marking. It can contain capacitors, diodes, and polarity markings. All of these together make up the circuit board code which the manufacturer will use for better understanding.

What are the Different Types of Mark Points and their Descriptions?

The different types of PCB markings are given by,

Single board mark:

This unique symbol represents the location of all features on a circuit on a single board.

Puzzle mark:

Puzzle markers are used to indicate the location of the circuit and its location.

Local mark:

Local Mark is used to locating a single component and improves overall positioning accuracy.

What is the role of markings?

The markings we see on PCB boards are also known as fiducially points. These create a familiar and localized circuit pattern in every step and overall assembly process. This was because they were placed in the right direction and were positioned close to perfect. There are also some tips for placing these certification marks:

  • The marked point must be of the optimum size and must be between 1 mm and 3 mm.
  • The marked point must be clear and free from solder mask.
  • All trust points must be opposite each other.
  • If there is not enough distance, a single global fiducially marker is enough.
  • The marked point must be placed at a distance of o.3 inches from the board’s edge.
