Damon Salvatore, who first appeared in the 2003 season of the series and became a vampire, is one of the three main characters in “The Vampire Diaries” that are portrayed by Ian Somerhalder.
Damon Salvatore’s Early Life
Damon Salvatore was born and raised in the small town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. He was turned into a vampire by Katherine Pierce in 1864 when he was just 17 years old. He then spent the next 145 years living in the shadows, hiding from the daylight and preying on humans for blood. In 2009, he met Elena Gilbert, a young girl who looked strikingly similar to Katherine. Damon fell in love with Elena and decided to protect her from the dangers of being a vampire. Since then, he has become one of our favorite TV vampires!
The Stages of Damon Salvatore’s Character Development
Damon Salvatore has come a long way since he first appeared on our screens in The Vampire Diaries. He’s gone from being a brooding, self-centered vampire to a heroic, self-sacrificing one, and we’ve loved watching his character development over the years. Here are the stages of Damon Salvatore’s character development, from when he was first introduced to when he became one of our favorite TV vampires.
Stage 1: The Ripper
When we first meet Damon, he’s introduced as a cold-blooded killer who takes pleasure in killing humans. He’s selfish and doesn’t care about anyone but himself. This is the stage where Damon is at his most dangerous and it’s hard to see him as anything other than a villain.
Stage 2: The Anti-Hero
As Damon starts to become more involved with the human world, we see him start to care about people other than himself. He develops relationships with Elena and Bonnie and becomes protective of them. He still has his moments where he reverts back to his old ways, but overall he’s becoming more of an anti-hero.
Stage 3: The Hero

Damon’s Lifestyle Choices (Travel, Vampires, Relationships, etc)
Salvatore’s love for travel began long before he became a vampire. As a child, he and his family would often go on camping trips together. Salvatore has said that these trips were some of his favorite memories growing up. After becoming a vampire, Salvatore continued to explore the world, often going on solo trips. He has said that he enjoys the freedom and independence that comes with traveling alone.
While Salvatore is best known for his role as a vampire on TV, he actually doesn’t enjoy drinking blood in real life. In fact, he says that he’s never even tasted human blood before. When asked about his thoughts on vampires in general, Salvatore has said that he thinks they’re “overrated” and “a bit played out”. He prefers to focus on the more positive aspects of being a vampire, such as the immortality and strength that come with it.
When it comes to relationships, Salvatore is currently single but has been in a few long-term relationships in the past. He has said that he’s not opposed to getting married one day, but he doesn’t
Elena Gilbert and Stefan Salvatore: What’s the Story?
Elena Gilbert and Stefan Salvatore have been two of our favorite TV vampires for years. They’ve been through a lot together, and their story is one that always keeps us coming back for more. But what is the story behind these two characters? How did they become the vampires we know and love today?
It all started in Mystic Falls, Virginia. Elena was a high school student who had just lost her parents in a car accident. She was struggling to cope with her grief when she met Stefan. He was a vampire who had just arrived in town, and he was instantly drawn to Elena. He tried to resist his attraction to her, but eventually, he gave in and they began a relationship.
Of course, being in a relationship with a vampire came with its own challenges. Stefan was constantly having to fight his bloodlust, and Elena was constantly worried about him losing control and turning into the monster she knew he could be. But they loved each other deeply, and they were willing to face whatever challenges came their way.
Eventually, Stefan’s evil brother Damon entered the picture. He wasn’t interested in Elena romantically, but he saw her as a means to get to Stefan. He wanted to use her to make Stefan turn off his humanity switch so that they could have a real fight. That way, he figured they could both die and go wherever vampires go when they die. But Elena wasn’t having any of it. She was totally smitten with Stefan and she wasn’t going to let anyone hurt him. Plus, she was convinced that Damon would kill her if he had the chance. So when Damon made his move, Elena left town with Stefan, leaving everyone else behind in Mystic Falls. They traveled for a while but eventually settled in New York City where Elena enrolled in college and worked as a waitress at a bar called The Grill. That’s how she met Matt Donovan, an honest-to-goodness nice guy who was instantly smitten with her. But Matt had a way of bringing out the worst in Damon. And as it turned out, Damon had been stalking Elena for some time, and after finding out she was in New York, he headed off to find her. While there, he discovered that Elena had a roommate named Bonnie—a witch with a dark secret that she shared exclusively with Caroline Forbes—the best friend of Stefan’s younger brother, Jeremy Gilbert.More bad news: Bonnie and Jeremy were both secretly involved with each other. But that wasn’t the worst of it. The worst was when Damon found out that Bonnie’s mother was an ancestor of Katherine’s, making her another doppelganger like Elena/Katherine who could be compelled by him
Conclusion
It’s hard to believe that Damon Salvatore, one of our favorite TV vampires, was once just a regular guy. But it’s true! Before he became the brooding vampire we know and love today, Damon was just an ordinary guy living in Mystic Falls. We’re so glad he made the transformation into vampire form though because otherwise, we would have missed out on some great entertainment! Thanks for everything, Damon!
