What Type of License Plate Should I Get?

Read Time:3 Minute, 18 Second

There are two types of license plates offered.

Custom vs. Standard will depend on where you live and what you’re looking to do with the plate.  If you’re looking for a custom design, it usually has to be related to your business or interest in some way, but there are no limits as far as creativity goes if you go with a standard plate.

Standard License Plates:

You can think of these as the traditional license plates that everyone is used to seeing on cars, except now they have been customized. These would most likely include vinyl lettering and/or logos from businesses such as car dealerships, contractors, personal training studios, etc.

Custom License Plates:

A custom license plate typically has to do with your business or personal interest. They are special, one of kind plates that cannot be reproduced.

When it comes to the cost of these plates, there is no difference between what you would pay for either type when you go through the Secretary of State’s licensing department. This fee will depend on where you live and where you order the plates from. It usually averages around $100 per set (front and back), but can vary depending on how many different messages/logos you want displayed. Some people may only need one message or logo displayed, while others might need 5 or messages/logos placed on the plate.

How long will it take to get my custom license plates?

This depends on the type of license plate you’re getting. Standard license plates can be ordered through your local Secretary of State office or any other business that offers this service, but they usually have a waiting period due to high demand for these plates. These are usually produced in an offsite location, so it can take anywhere from 4 days up to 2 weeks to receive them once they are produced at the off site location. On the other hand, custom license plate orders are generated immediately since they are specially made for each individual order- which is what makes them unique!

  1. A standard license plate with a random number and letter combination
  2. A specialty license plate that includes a particular phrase, such as “GO CUBs” or “LOLZ”
  3. A specialty license plate with your name on it
  4. None of the above
  5. All of the above
  6. I don’t know, help me out here!
