Things To Consider Before Purchasing a Pallet Truck

Read Time:2 Minute, 55 Second

Purchasing best pallet trucks in Australia is a serious investment. Before purchasing a pallet truck, you should think about how you will be using it so that you can make the right choice for your needs.

What type of trucks do you need?

Pallet trucks come in various styles and sizes, including electric and manual. Manual pallet trucks are cheaper than electric ones. However, manual pallet trucks require more physical labor to operate. If the only thing that requires moving is pallets, then a manual truck would be sufficient.

However, if you have multiple items that need to be moved on a daily basis, an electric lift truck would be more efficient. Electric pallet trucks are also safer because they prevent employees from getting fatigued as easily.

What type of loads will it transport?

Pallet trucks can transport both lightweight and heavyweight loads depending on their capacity rating. If your business moves many heavy loads each day, then it’s important to make sure you find a truck with a high-capacity rating that won’t break down when transporting heavier loads. Using a truck with an inadequate capacity may result in costly repairs or injuries over time.

The type of pallet truck you need will depend on your needs. Some pallet trucks can be used for multiple purposes whereas others can only be used for one purpose only. Here are some popular types of pallets.

Standard Pallet Truck

This is the most common type of pallet truck available in the market today. It has a standard design with two forks that are designed to fit under all types of EU or UK size pallets (1200mm x 800mm). The standard pallet truck typically has a loading capacity between 1500kg and 3000kg. These are perfect for warehouses that make use of standard sized loads only.

Determine What Type of Pallet Truck You Need

There are two types of pallet trucks: manual and electric. Manual pallet trucks are powered by a person pushing or pulling it along manually, while electric pallet trucks need to be plugged into an outlet to operate. Electric ones are much faster than manual ones, but manual ones cost less and don’t require electricity to operate.

Will it fit?

Before you even start looking at different models, take a few minutes to measure the load area and door widths so you know what size pallet truck will fit through the doors and work with the loads you need to move.

What are you moving?

Every pallet truck is designed to handle a different weight range and type of load. Some pallet trucks are designed specifically for moving light materials like empty cardboard boxes and rolls of paper, while others are made for heavy construction equipment or other bulky equipment. Make sure to check the manufacturer’s weight range specifications before purchasing.

Weight Capacity vs. Fork Length

One of the major factors when purchasing a pallet truck is what load capacity it has. The weight capacity is usually directly related to the size, weight and length of the pallet truck itself. In most cases, increasing the load capacity also means increasing the size and length of the fork lift section. This may not always be practical, especially if your workplace is cramped or limited on space. It’s important to keep in mind that you’ll need at least two feet on either side of the fork lift for maneuverability as well as at least 3 feet behind it in order to use it effectively.
